The excursion to the city’s wastewater treatment plant was organized to familiarize ourselves with the technological processes of wastewater treatment, which ensure the protection of the environment from pollution. Wastewater treatment plants play a key role in maintaining the ecological safety and health of city residents. We were told about the importance of wastewater treatment plants, the history of their creation and main functions. Information was provided on the types of pollutants in wastewater and methods for their removal. We visited the mechanical treatment section, where wastewater passes through grates and sieves to remove large solid particles. We were shown how sand traps work, which remove sand and other heavy impurities. Then we went to the biological treatment section. Here, wastewater is exposed to microorganisms that decompose organic pollutants. We were explained the principle of operation of aeration tanks and biofilters, which ensure effective purification. The next stage of the tour covered chemical treatment, where residual pollutants are removed from water using reagents. We learned about coagulation, flocculation and chlorination methods, as well as how the laboratory works, where the quality of treated water is analyzed. It was interesting to learn how modern technologies help to ensure a high standard of treatment. The tour of the city’s treatment plant gave us the opportunity to see the complex and multi-stage process of wastewater treatment, which is an integral part of the city’s environmental safety. We are grateful to the “KP “Ivano-Frankivskvodoekotekhprom”” for the opportunity to see the work of the treatment plant from the inside and learn more about the technologies that ensure the cleanliness of our city.
